Cut the Commute for Your Health by Remote Working

Cutting your commute

How Cutting Your Commute Could Improve Your Health

Much has been discussed about work/life balance.  It seem cutting your commute can help your general wellbeing.  For some of us lucky home workers, the commute is little more than padding downstairs and sticking the kettle on before firing up the laptop. For other, less fortunate souls however, it can mean up to two hours per day in their vehicle or on public transport.

Studies have shown that long commutes adversely affect health and wellbeing, increase stress levels and can even shorten life span. It can have a strain on finances to cover fuel and parking costs and take up much of our free time.

The most detrimental factors seen as having an impact on our health when commuting include; journey delays, overcrowding, anti-social behaviour, uncomfortable temperature and long commutes. Sound familiar??

Benefits of Healthy Workforce

It is increasingly being recognised by employers that a healthy workforce has its benefits to the company too; increased staff morale, less absenteeism, increased productivity, increased employee engagement and less chance of long-term sickness. These have massive cost savings for the company as a whole.

The Future of Work

We are running into a new era of hypermobility which is being fuelled by technology. People are starting to recognise the lesser need to be stuck in a specific workplace and Generation Y are looking for jobs that offer the flexibility to work anywhere.

Having a flexible working policy also allows companies to tap into talent worldwide in an ever competitive marketplace.

Cutting Your Commute – How to do it

The number of co-working spaces has steadily been increasing worldwide as more people start their own businesses, become freelancers and more companies put in flexible working policies.  But these can

Why go from one office to another?

Many people still like taking their work away from home and all the home distractions. Being able to leave work in another place so they can enjoy the comfort of time at home more.

There are also ample opportunities to network and collaborate with other people in the same or different industries rather than being contained within your organisation. As the need for innovation grows, creativity is becoming a top wanted skill and collaboration is happening more often than not.

As co-working and office spaces start popping up locally there is no need to take that 2-3 hour journey to work. Instead, take a nice stroll to the local business centre. Great news for health, time and finances.
